MC Beaton - another series!

Pride of place on MC Beaton's new bookcase in the shop are her three 'new' titles. Actually re-issues, they involve spinster, Miss Hannah Pym. She uses a recent inheritance to travel the country but everywhere she goes, there seems a romantic problem to sort out. Naturally she considers it her duty to act the matchmaker. They are entitled ‘Emily goes to Exeter’, ‘Belinda goes to Bath’ and ‘Penelope goes to Portsmouth’. All are bound to be top sellers.

Watch out too for the paperback of her recent Agatha title, 'Agatha Raisin and the Busy Body' and another Hamish MacBeth title. Out Soon!

  1. I love the new look cover art on this series, but am still not sure that I like the concept of keeping up to date, by re-publishing with new covers.
Isn't the cover of the book what helps to make it a classic? I also think that, for the same reason, author's shouldn't keep re-publishing older works full stop, but keep their reputation by continuing to produce work with new and fresh ideas.

  2. Hi Yvonne,
Ah, but the publishers need the money. So do we come to that. Also, there are many readers who have only recently come across her work so the re-issues appear as a new series.
I like both the old and the new Agatha covers. All of the new jackets certainly are lively. There are some jackets where I prefer the old but youngsters like the new, such as Just William and Famous Five.
