The Box of Delights by John Masefield was one of my favourite books, as a child, and though I've not read it for ages, I suspect it would still engage me.I was reminded of it when I read the Guardian blurb on the jacket of Salley Vicker's latest paperback.

I have just finished reading an earlier Salley Vickers book 'The Other Side Of You' and thoroughly enjoyed it, so 'Aphrodite's Hat' looks like another for the wish list.

I've not tried Salley Vickers yet. Recent proofs have been The Invisible Ones - Stef Penney, Words in the Dust - Trent Reedy and Netherwood - Jane Sanderson, all excellent.
